Student Email

The University provides each student with an e-mail account.  In Fall 2009, the University’s IT Department began moving students to a new web-based e-mail platform, which is called Live@EDU, and which students will be able to use permanently, even after graduating.  This new platform offers increased storage space and allows students to use their university e-mail addresses as Microsoft Live IDs for accessing services such as Messenger, Office Live Workspace and Skydrive.

Students who entered in Fall 2009 and Fall 2010 have accounts on this new e-mail platform while students who entered in Fall 2008 have not been migrated to the new platform. Thus, as of August 2010, first-year and second-year students have e-mail addresses ending in @live.udc.edu while third-year students have e-mail addresses ending in @udc.edu.

Currently, the School of Law does not require its students to use their UDC e-mail accounts. The School of Law will send administrative announcements to the address a student enters as the Primary E-mail in his or her profile on this website.  Students may enter a UDC account or a private account (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL, etc.).

  • If using a private account, students should verify that law school e-mails are not being filtered out as junk mail or spam. Students should be receiving a daily e-mail with the subject line ”What’s Happening Today at UDC-DCSL.” If not, please add contact the Website Administrator at lawwebmaster@udc.edu
If you are on the NEW e-mail platform (i.e. if you entered in Fall 2009 or 2010)

You should have received an e-mail with start-up instructions. If not, contact lawhelp@udc.edu

To set up or access your live.udc.edu e-mail account, visit http://www.outlook.com

The first time you log in, you will be asked to create a new password. If you forget your password, click the ‘Forgot your password?’ link on the sign-in page.

If you have questions about your account, contact the UDC Helpdesk at (202) 274-5941.

If you are on the OLD e-mail platform (i.e. if you are a 3L)

To access your udc.edu e-mail account, visit http://owa.udc.edu

For students, the username format is smartchoicefirstname.lastname (some students may have a number appended to the username). Students select their own passwords.

Note that on the old e-mail platform, you will be prompted to change your password every 90 days. If you do not log-in to your account and change your password during the week prior to the expiration date, you will be locked out. To get back in, you will need to contact the School of Law’s IT staff (lawhelp@udc.edu or 202-274-7351 or ask at the Law Library Circulation Desk) or the University’s IT Department (Building 41, Rm. 318; bring your University ID card).
